About this Research Topic

Statistics have been widely used in bibliometric analyses. Yet, it is well-known that not all uses follow best practices, possibly resulting in invalid conclusions or irreproducibility. This Research Topic aims to provide insights into the proper use of statistics in bibliometrics.

Topics of interest include:

. Guidelines for using statistics in scientometrics analysis, e.g. simple rules we should follow when using statistics;

The reproducibility of statistics in bibliometrics (or, more generally, in science);

Misuse of p-values in scientometrics;

Current trends in using statistics in the science of science;

Advanced statistical techniques and their application in bibliometrics, e.g. the difference-in-differences approach;

Best practice of statistics in responsible research evaluation;

. Teaching of statistics for bibliometrics students, examples of teaching experiences, the order of teaching concepts and their relatedness;

Other interesting topics.
