About this Research Topic
Research integrity and responsible research practices are increasingly being discussed by the academic community and the public. In recent years, a number of significant cases of academic misconduct have been reported worldwide. With the improvement in the availability of scientific papers and their related data, our understanding of academic misconduct is also improving. Nevertheless, we still notice a gap among policymakers, researchers, and societal participants on their understanding of academic misconduct and related policies and measures. To provide insights into research integrity and academic misconduct from multiple perspectives, this research topic aims to answer the question – what can policymakers, scientometricians, publishers ,institutions and researchers do to counter academic misconduct?
Topics of interest include:
l Quantitative analysis of current trends in academic misconduct.
l Examples of large scale acadmic miscounduct and behaviour such as manipulating rankings, "predatory" journals and conbferences as well as underlying causes and trends.
l Reporting on and analysis of paper mill activity and any legal actions to pursue them.
l The alignment of research practices and research integrity policies.
l Examples of effective research integrity policies and practice, and analysis of their impact.
l The impact of academic misconduct on public trust in science.
l Techniques and tools utilized to fight academic misconduct, such as recognition of fraudulent images, AI or paper-mill generated text, detection of peer review and citation rings, etc.
l Other topics revelant to the best practices in research integrity and countering academic miscounduct.
